Rwanda’s debutant representative at Miss World 2016, Jolly Mutesi, missed out on the global beauty contest that saw Puerto Rican model and musician Stephanie Del Valle crowned Miss World 2016.

The highly vetted competition was held Sunday in Maryland, United States.

Neighboring Kenya made it to the top 5 countries, with Miss Kenya, Evelyn Njambi Thungu, finishing in the fourth position during the grand finale of the Miss World 2016.

First runner up was Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez, of the Dominican Republic followed by Natasha Mannuela from Indonesia.

This year saw 117 contestants across the world vying for the iconic title. The competition also had various categories such as Top Model, Sports, Talent, Multimedia, and Beauty with a Purpose, being won by China PR, Cook Islands, Mongolia, Philippines and Indonesia respectively.

Puerto Rico becomes the 17th country with multiple winners since Miss World started in 1951.

Although the Miss World Talent event is not a compulsory competition, contestants who participate in the event, earn major points in the final round of the Miss World competition.

This was the first time in history, that Rwanda participated in the Miss World beauty pageant, with Miss Rwanda 2016 Jolly Mutesi, being the first beauty queen to represent the country at the international beauty pageant and battling it out with 117 contestants.

Efforts to reach Mutesi or her manager Dieudonne Ishimwe by press time were futile.
