Police FC coach Innocent Seninga has praised his players as the law enforcers side stretched their unbeaten run to eight league matches after a 2-0 win over Etincelles FC on Saturday at Kicukiro stadium.

On-form striker Dany Usengimana gave Police a fourth minute lead, to take his tally to seven in nine matches before his striking partner, Justin Mico, doubled the lead in the 27th minute.

The win saw the 2015 Peace Cup champions close the gap on the leaders Rayon Sports to a difference of three points, and level with second-placed APR FC, which was facing SC Kiyovu by press time. Rayon were held to a frustrating 1-all draw by Mukura Victory Sports on Friday.

It was the first meeting for Seninga against Etincelles, a side he left in July to join Police FC. He attributed the win to the good team spirit that his players have displayed since he took charge. "There is no any other secret apart from the team spirit, which is growing stronger. I am happy that the team is improving day by day. Etincelles are good and they showed that today, but we controlled them and managed to win,” said Seninga in a post-match interview.

However, the former SC Kiyovu and Isonga FC coach singled out his attacking duo of Usengimana and Mico, who have scored 12 goals out of the team’s total of 14 from eight matches.

He noted that, "I am very happy with their partnership, they are doing a really great job for the team because in every game, we get a goal from either of them. When you have goal scorers in the team and they’re doing their job, then chances of winning matches are high.”

In their next game, Police will face defending champions APR FC on Friday at Kigali Regional Stadium.

Meanwhile, Espoir FC maintained their unbeaten run as they thrashed bottom-placed Pepiniere 3-0 in Rusizi. Espoir have the best defence in the league and the win kept them in fourth place with 19 points. Fifth-placed AS Kigali defeated Kirehe FC 4-2 courtesy of a hat trick from striker Emmanuel Sebanani while Hamidou Ndayisaba scored the other goal. Kirehe goals were scored by Hassan Habimana and Tresor Muhoza. At the bottom, Gicumbi FC lost their seventh game of the season as they fell to visiting Bugesera FC 1-2 at Mumena stadium. Bievenue Mugenzi and Farouk Ssentongo were on target for Vincent Mashami’s team while Rashid Mutebi scored for Gicumbi.

Bugesera moved to sixth place with 15 points where as Gicumbi remained in 13th place with just four points after nine rounds of matches.
