Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) in collaboration with 12 organizations working with street children will organize the Children Sports Day 2016 on December 21 at Amahoro National Stadium.

The day will be the first of the kind in Rwanda, with more than one thousand underprivileged children from communities around the City of Kigali, expected to attend.

The event will start with a march from Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to Amavubi Stadium in the morning and throughout the day; former athletes including Olympian Alphonisine Agahozo (swimming) and artists like Rafiki of ‘Choga style’ will inspire and entertain the children.

Rwanda Athletics Federation will offer several sports workshops and use the opportunity to discover potential talents.

The RNOSC president Robert Bayigamba explained that it is their duty to spread the Olympic values of solidarity towards vulnerable children.

"RNOSC is proud to initiate this event for the first time in our country. We believe the children will enjoy the day’s planned activities,” Bayigamba told Times Sport.

The 12 organizations working with street children include: Asolate Organization (120), Rwanda Samarithan Choice (30), Les Enfants de Dieu (100), SOS Children Village (300), Hope of Tomorrow (more than 120), Love for Hope Rwanda, Peace and Hope Initiative Organization, Esparence (120), Centre CECYDAR (100) and Root Foundation (over 120) as well as Hope of Tomorrow Rwanda Skate-Aid Skateboarding.
