National Football League title hopefuls Police FC will be hoping to win and remain in contention when they host Etincelles on match-day 9 on Saturday at Kicukiro Stadium.
The law enforcer’s side under head coach Innocent Seninga, are aiming to win their first ever league title since 2004 when they got promoted to topflight division, four years after the club was founded.
Seninga is confident that a win against his former club, which he left for Police in July, will pile more pressure on table leaders Rayon Sport and close the 5 point gap between the two sides. Rayon leads the table with 22 points while Police lies in third place with 17 points.
"We have made winning the league title our key priority this season. I am very grateful that, as a team, we are pulling in the same direction and working together towards achieving this target,” Seninga told Saturday Sport.
Despite their 3-0 loss against Rayon Sport on the opening day of the season, Police FC are so far unbeaten in the last seven league games, after winning five and drawing two.
"Etincelles are a good side and have made a good start. They can harm anyone in this division, so we must be careful because we want to win and keep pressure on Rayon and APR if we are to remain in the title race,” Seninga added.
Etincelles are seventh with 12 points after winning four and losing four of their eight matches and they will also be seeking to bounce back from the 3-1 defeat against SC Kiyovu last Sunday. Elsewhere today, fifth-placed AS Kigali will host Kirehe FC that lies in 9th place at Kigali Regional Stadium while Espoir, in fourth place will take on bottom side Pepiniere in Rusizi.
Fourteenth-place Gicumbi FC will play at home against Bugesera which is in sixth position at Mumena Stadium. On Sunday, defending champions APR will lock horns with 10th-placed SC Kiyovu at Kigali Regional Stadium. Musanze FC will face Marines at Nyakinama stadium while Sunrise FC will be up against second from bottom Amagaju FC at Nyagatare stadium.
