Healthcare: We still have a long way to go
One thing that has always broken my heart about the healthcare system in Rwanda is how often people travel abroad to get the care needed. Medical tourism robs us of colossal funds that could have been contributing to bettering our health infrastructure and medical equipment.

Excellent commentary, Dr Butera! I imagine you'll play a significant role yourself in the health sector as Rwanda moves forward toward these goals.

Medical tourism robs us of colossal funds that could have been contributing to bettering our health infrastructure and medical equipment. Until we improve the quality of health care and offer technically advanced treatment options, it will be a challenge to sustain appropriate health care for everyone because most private and out of pocket funding goes abroad.
