MTN Rwanda has unveiled a data sharing solution that is tipped to help deepen Internet penetration and make it easily accessible. Launched in partnership with U2opia Mobile, MTN Internet Me2U, a peer-to-peer (P2P), makes the data sharing process seamless and quick.
According to Gaspard Bayigane, the MTN senior manager for marketing operations, MTN Internet Me2U is powered by Fonepass, U2opia mobile’s sponsored data platform, and allows all prepaid users to share data MBs between friends and family on the network.
Bayigane said as Internet and smartphones become more accessible, "Clients are increasingly staying connected on mobile data”.
Bayigane added that the MTN Internet Me2U puts Internet access within the reach of all data subscribers, noting that the solution will enable users access uninterrupted data and enjoy the benefits of mobile data.
"The increasing uptake of data-enabled devices guarantees that more people will need to keep purchasing internet packs and MTN Internet Me2U will help eliminate barriers to accessing data,” he said.
Sumesh Menon, the co-founder of U2opia Mobile, said the solution, the first-of-its-kind in Rwanda, "is at the centre of mobile data revolution”.
"With Internet and smartphones now becoming more accessible across the globe, access to data has become a necessity as people want to stay connected,” Menon said. Menon added that the P2P data sharing solution brings flexibility to manage data plans and also eases access to data. How it works
MTN Internet Me2U allows data to be shared between two users, by triggering the USSD short code *825*10#. To check the available balance of MBs that have been gifted, the recipient can dial *825*11#. One can send a friend or family as low as 5MB and up to 20GB.
