After delivering a massive performance at the Kigali Jazz Junction last Friday, the Injyana ensembles are returning with a free concert dubbed, ‘Injyana Christmas’ at the New Life Bible Church in Kicukiro.
The ensemble includes the ‘Injyana Orchestra Rwanda’, the ‘Injyana Jazz Big Band’, ‘Injyana Community Band’ and they will be joined by ‘The Beginning Strings’ an ensemble made up of students, and combines people from different cultures, professions and age groups.
The conductor of the ensembles Lance Gaskill says that it’s encouraging to see young people uplifting each other in unity and is excited to provide opportunities and vibrancy to the younger generation.
"When you perform music you are very alive and very aware of what’s happening and that is fulfilling to see the young people learn these skills, work together and perform something that is much bigger than what they expect, with everyone upholding each other. It is very fulfilling when they introduce vibrancy and life,” he said.
Gaskill promised classical and exciting pieces like Rwanda’s first symphony, to usher in the Christmas holidays, Mozart and many more. Injyana ensembles aim to blend classical, jazz and new school music. "It will be a family concert, familiar Christmas carols and a lot of jazz music, the symphony orchestra and the Injyana orchestra will be performing classical music like Bach and Mozart and a great grand finale that involves drums and electric guitar,” he told The New times.
Guest vocalist, Lydia from the Neptunez band will also perform at the concert.
