AFTER the weekend 1-1 draw against Police FC, Kirehe FC head coach Hamiss ‘Kishi’ Sogonya will be hoping for a win when his team take on APR FC in the Azam Rwanda Premier league at Kigali Regional Stadium, today.
Kirehe will be aiming to put a halt on APR’s unbeaten run. The defending champions have won six games and drawn one so far this season.
Jimmy Mulisa’s APR are in fifth place with 11 points while Kirehe are 7th – also with 11 points.
Sogonya believes his team has what it takes to get all the three points. "We will be aiming for a win, if things don’t turn out the way we expect, it will be bad for us because we want to stay near the top teams, so we must win the game. We failed to get three points against Police but against APR we will play for three points,” Kishi said.
"We know APR are a big team with a very good squad, but we are confident that we can win tomorrow and close the gap at the top. It will be tough, but we are ready,” the former AS Kigali tactician added.
However, his APR counterpart, Jimmy Mulisa, vowed the defending champions will do anything to maintain their unbeaten streak.
The former Rwanda international forward said: "Kirehe have quality players, so it is going to be a hard game for both teams. Kirehe are one of the best teams in the league, but we want to get all points to close the gap on top teams.”
The league table is led by Rayon Sports with 19 points, followed by Police FC (14 ) while Espoir FC are third with 13 points.
Etincelles FC are fourth with 11 points while APR FC, Sunrise FC and Kirehe FC have 11 points each and occupy fifth, sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
AS Kigali are ranked eighth, with 10 points, Bugesera ninth with nine points while Musanze FC and SC Kiyovu are in tenth and eleventh positions respectively with eight points each.
Mukura VS are ranked 12th with seven points; Gicumbi, Marines FC and Amagaju have four points each in 13th, 14th, 15th positions, respectively, while Pepiniere FC lie bottom of the table with one point from six matches played so far this season.
