Following their perfect start to the 2016/17 Basketball League season last weekend, APR head coach Cliff Owour is keen on ending a five-year league trophy drought.
The Kenyan tactician made his intentions known on Sunday after his side humbled United Generation Basketball (UGB) in the opening fixture of the 2016/17 fixture that took place at Amahoro Indoor Stadium revealing that the target is achievable if they maintain commitment and work hard as a team.
The military side defeated UGB 91-45, taking the first quarter 19 to 13 points of their opponents before running away with the second 18-13.
The 2011 champions upped their game in the third quarter taking it 32-9 before sealing the victory in the fourth quarter taking it on 22-10 to wrap up the game on 91-45.
Speaking to the media after the game, Owour praised the enthusiasm in his youthful squad and is confident that his side is one of the favourities for league glory, however he noted it will not be easy given how others have strengthened themselves. "We are in the title race, one game at a time and already we have won against UGB and we are looking forward to win the next game and continue to challenge those other top teams.”
In their next game for this coming Sunday, the black-and-white outfit will take on reigning playoffs champions IPRC-South that also won their game against 30 Plus 85-37.
