Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki arrived in the country yesterday afternoon for a three-day State visit.

Kibaki and his host, President Paul Kagame later in the evening held bilateral discussions at Urugwiro Village before heading to Kigali Serena Hotel for a State banquet in honour of the visiting Head of State.

Present at Village Urugwiro were, among others, both countries’ foreign ministers. Rwanda’s Rosemary Museminali briefed reporters about the late evening meeting shortly after.

"The Presidents were discussing about relations between our two countries and how we can work together,” she said.

Museminali pointed out that the two countries cooperate in various platforms – bilaterally and within the East African Community (EAC) framework.

She listed education, tourism and military training as some of the areas of cooperation, adding that the two countries were now looking into other areas.

Kibaki is expected to attend a business community working breakfast meeting hosted by the Rwanda Private Sector Federation today and visit Gatsibo District in the Eastern Province to meet farmers he donated 120 cows to in 2005.

Kibaki will also meet members of the Kenyan community before he winds up his visit.
