APR FC and Amavubi midfielder Djamal Mwiseneza has revealed that he is eager to get back to playing following a year on the sidelines due to a knee injury.
The midfielder played his first league match for the army side on Friday, coming on as a second half substitute in the 2-1 league win over Etincelless at Kigali Regional Stadium.
The 31-year-old had not played for army side since picking an injury during last season’s first round league encounter with Rayon Sports that ended 4-0 in favour of the army side at Amahoro stadium.
Mwiseneza took longer than expected to return from the injury which was initially expected to keep him out for just "two to three” weeks, according to initial diagnosis by the club medical team.
"I have been keen to get back to full action and my knee has responded positively. I am working my way back to the squad to get more playing time possibly on the first team. I have to pick myself up very quickly,” Mwiseneza said following his lively cameo appearance on Friday.
The Rwanda international has been out of action since February last year (20 months). In October last year, he was transferred to Morocco for surgery and rehabilitation which took him more six months to heal.
He has missed most of the APR games since his injury and new head coach Jimmy Mulisa has admitted that he is not in the rush to play him for a full match since he has been out for a long time.
Mwiseneza will have a fight on his hands to reclaim his place in the starting team having fallen behind the likes of Issa Birigirimana, Fiston Nkinzingabo and Innocent Habyarimana.
