Rwanda international striker Jacques Tuyisenge has been dominated for the 2016 Kenya Premier League Player of the Year award.

The 25-year old forward joined the record 15-time Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia in February of this year, for a reported transfer fee of US$ 40,000 (about Rwf30 million).

The move made him the second most expensive player involving a Rwandan side, behind Ernest Sugira, who was bought by DR Congo’s AS Vita Club from AS Kigali for US$100,000.

Tuyisenge, a former Police, SC Kiyovu and Etincelles FC striker has made an instant impact at his new club. In April, he won the Soka Fans player of the month Award after scoring 5 goals in 7 appearances.

Gor Mahia made a slow start to this season, but quickly moved up the table since the arrival of Tuyisenge, who scored 10 goals that helped his team finish in the second place with 54 points behind champions Tusker FC (61 points). Despite not scoring any penalty in the 10 goals, Tuyisenge was the fourth top scorer after Ulinzi Stars forward John Makwata, who had 15 goals (including four penalties). Muhoroni Youth FC’s Wycliffe Ochomo has 12 goals in the second place also without a penalty goal while AFC Leopards Kepha Aswani has 11 goals of which one was a penalty. Tuyisenge will battle for the top award with four players. These include; his teammate Erick Marcelo Ouma, who has been also listed on the Most Valuable Player of the year, Western Stima’s Kenneth Muguna, Posta Ranger’s Cavin Odongo and City Stars Oliver Maloba. The awarding ceremony will be held on December 14 at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.
