Newly created Gisagara Volleyball Club have set a target of finishing in the top four places in their maiden season that will kick off on December, 17.

The Southern province based side will kick off their pre-season preparations today at their newly constructed Rwf921 million International Gymnasium that they will use to host their home fixtures.

Speaking to Times Sport in an interview, Club Chairman Fr. Dieudone Kayirate revealed that their team will be aiming for a top four finish this season as they seek to first adapt in their uncharted waters. However, he noted that top teams should expect a tough challenge.

"This is our first season and we need to first adapt and look for the challenges so our target will be seeking to finish in top four, but if any of the top teams slip we will go for the title and other trophies that we are going to play for,” Kayitare said

Gisagara will compete in the regular national league (men and women), league playoffs, and Beach Circuit as well as Carre d’As tournaments.

Under head coach Eric Gakwaya, Gisagara has signed several players including seniors like Pierre Marshal Kwizera, a former Kirehe coach that came out of retirement; left attackers Patrick Kavalo Akumuntu (University of Kibungo (UNIK) and Flavien Ndamukunda (Rayon Sports), Central player William Mudahemuka, and setter Thierry Mugabo, both from UNIK and libero Emile Ian Dada Karera (APR). Others include setter Cedrick Ngaboyintwari (Petit Seminaire Virgo Fiodelis de Butar- Karubanda), Aimable Nkuranga, Feston Kagaba, Modeste Niyibaho.

University of Kibungo (UNIK) and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) are defending champions in men and women’s category respectively.
