After seeing his side beat Musanze FC 3-1 on Sunday to move second on the national league table, Police head coach Innocent Seninga has made it clear that his top priority this season is winning the first league with the law enforcers.
Striker Danny Usengimana grabbed a hat-trick to help Police rout Musanze in the match day 6 encounter of the Azam Rwanda Premier League in Nyakinama, which took them to second position on the log with 13 points, three behind leaders Rayon Sports. Wai Yeka scored Musanze’s consolation goal.
"We have made the league title our key priority this season and I am very grateful that, as a team, we have the same sense of direction and we are working together toward this target,” said Seninga in an interview with Times Sport on Monday
After losing their opening league fixture 3-0 to Rayon Sports, the cops recovered to win their next four games, a momentum that Seninga has urged his players to keep.
"We have to keep pressure on Rayon and avoid losing any point if we are to remain in title contention, but I am sure we are in a good position to win more games,” he added
Meanwhile, Seninga hailed his star striker Usengimana following his recent form that inspired them to four consecutive wins. Following his hat-trick, Usengimana now leads the top scorer’s charts with 6 goals in six matches.
"I think he is having his best season and I have no doubt he will again take the top scorers award probably with more than 20 goals this season,” he noted
In other games played last weekend, a lone strike from Salita Kambale was enough to hand Etincelles FC a deserved win over Sunrise FC at Umuganda stadium. The win took Etincelles into third position with 12 points while Sunrise FC dropped to fourth spot with 10 points.
In Kirehe District, Kirehe FC was forced into a goalless draw by visitors SC Kiyovu. Kirehe FC are now 7th with 10 points while SC Kiyovu improved to 12th spot with five points.
On Saturday, Espoir FC defeated Mukura VS 2-0 in Rusizi to secure their second win of the season, which saw them move into sixth place with 10 points while the Huye-based side slipped into eleventh place with 11 points.
Amagaju FC secured their first victory of the season as they sunk Marines 1-0 at Umuganda stadium in Rubavu to move into 14th position with 4 points.
Pepiniere FC and Marines FC are in 15th and 16th with a point each. Rayon Sports lead the league log with 16 points following their 1-0 win over Bugesera FC at Stade de Kigali at the weekend.
