He is Rwanda’s most recognised comedian. Yet, Arthur Nkusi is not resting on his laurels – from appearing in hilarious commercials to making people laugh on the stage.
Rutura, as he has come to be locally known (a distortion of his name Arthur), on Friday, yet again, proved that his talent has no limits as he sent hundreds of people into laughter throughout a ‘night of comedy’, dubbed ‘Ijoro rya Rutura’, at Ambassador’s Park, Kigali.
Not even a downpour could keep away his fans and comedy lovers in general away.
This time Nkusi, also a radio presenter, cracked jokes only in Kinyarwanda to make sure the entire audience followed.
It was also a great chance for upcoming comedian Lucas Kayitare, who has lately been popular on social media with a number of jokes, especially through different WhatsApp groups, to showcase his talent.
Arthur introduced him to the audience as one of the most promising comedians.
Kayitare didn’t disappoint, cracking a series of entertaining jokes mixed with the famous Michael Jackson’s dance moves, to the delight of the crowd.
Later on, DJ Pius and Nina came on the stage and performed together several of their songs, including Charly and Nina’s Agatege, Indoro (featuring Burundian Big Fizzo), and DJ Pius’ Agatako (featuring Ugandan Jose Chameleone) and Ntibyambaho (Two4Real ftZiggy 55).
The pair was later joined on stage by Ugandan singer Geosteady to perform together Owooma, a new collaboration with Charly and Nina, which has since become a household hit in Rwanda.
Its video was officially unveiled, despite Nina’s music partner, Charly, missing on stage for reasons yet to be announced.
During the show, lucky winners walked away with 90 GB free internet bundles, courtesy of Airtel.
