Bizimana joins DRC side Virunga as head coach

Former Etincelles and Amagaju FC coach Abdul ‘Becken’ Bizimana has joined DR Congo side DC Virunga as head coach on a one-year contract, Times Sport has learnt.

Bizimana, who resigned as Amagaju head coach at end of last season, said, "I wanted to work again at the top level so I chose to go to DC Virunga where I want to build a strong team which will be loved by everyone in Goma.

Regarding his targets for next season, Bizimana said he has been tasked to lead the team to higher ratings in the Linafoot League.

"My major task is to bring the team to a higher level, so I will work with my managers to achieve our targets,” he said on Sunday.

Apart from the monthly salary, which he didn’t reveal but insisted is better than what he was earning in Rwanda; Bizimana will also get a car, communication, accommodation in addition to other bonuses.

Currently he is the only Rwandan coaching outside of the country. The Linafoot second round will kickoff next week.

DC Virunga is a Congolese football club based in Goma. The club plays its home games at Stade de Virunga which hosts 10,000 people.

For the first round of Linafoot league, in Eastern DRC, Bizimana’s team is in second place with 19 points, four behind the leaders Dauphins Noirs while Bukavu Dawa is in third place with 13 points.
