Rwanda Premier League champions APR will, on Friday evening, face Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the last game of Group B at the ongoing Mapinduzi Cup 2023 in Zanzibar.
APR has already qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament, having put up fair performances in the first two group games it played, beating Zanzibar’s JKU SC 3-1 and losing to Tanzania’s Singida 1-3.

The game against Simba will take place at 7:15pm. It is one that is highly anticipated by football lovers as two top regional teams will be tussling it out.
Speaking about APR’s journey at the tournament so far, head coach Thierry Froger said it was unfortunate for his team to lose their first game to Singida, but noted that his team managed to recover and is ready to put up a good display.

About the game with Simba, he said:
"We must go into the game with a positive mind-set and determination to win.”
Simba are one of the teams that are respected in the region and even the African continent. They recently beat the Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the African Champions League.
The regional tournament Mapinduzi Cup is on its 25th edition. The first edition was held in 1998 and won by the Jamhuri FC team from Zanzibar.
