Kwizera's strike sends Rayon three points clear at the top

Burundian forward Pierrot Kwizera scored his fifth league goal in as many matches on Saturday against Sunrise FC at Nyagatare ground to send Rayon Sports three points clear at the top of the nation football league table.

Burundian forward Pierrot Kwizera scored his fifth league goal in as many matches on Saturday against Sunrise FC at Nyagatare ground to send Rayon Sports three points clear at the top of the nation football league table.

Last season’s player of the year Kwizera netted the winning goal in the 73rd minute with header after wonderful cross from right-back Yves Rwigema.

Both teams went into the game level on 10 points and are separated by a 3+ goal difference in favour of the blues, but after the win, Djuma Masudi’s team now lead the table with 13 points, Sunrise and Police, who drew goalless with Mukura VS at Kicukiro Stadium, are joint second with 10 points.

Elsewhere, at Nyamata ground, Bugesera beat Marines 1-0 courtesy of Farouk Ruhinda’s headed goal in the 40th minute, which sent Vincent Mashami’s side to sixth place with 8 points after five rounds of matches.

Actions will continue on Sunday when Emmanuel Ruremesha’s Etincelles will meet Pepiniere at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu District while the struggling Amagaju in 14th spot host 11th-placved AS Kigali at Nyagisenyi stadium. Gicumbi will be up against Espoir in Gicumbi.
