20 graft suspects sent to Cyangugu prison

RUSIZI — Twenty people who were recently arrested by Police in Kamembe, for allegedly embezzling funds meant t for the health insurance scheme, have been sent to the Cyangugu central prison.

Police sources told The New Times on Monday that the suspects pleaded guilty to the charges.

"We (Police) sent them to Cyangugu prison after our preliminary investigations implicated them in embezzling money for Mituelle de sante….they had even proved guilty to the charges,” the Police source said, adding that they would soon be produced in court.

The suspects including three women and 17 men, all residents of Rusizi district, were arrested on Sunday, November 9 on charges of embezzling about Rwf50 millions. Among them are former executive secretaries of different area cells and accountants at the Sector levels.

Police identified the suspects as Emmanuel Habarurema, Pascal Adosi, Theogene Nzaramba, Hassan Njuru, Hadija Kavumbi, and Jean Pierre Habumugisha alias Ntarumanga.

Others are Faustin Bunani, Zulerie Mwamini, Ferdinand Nambajimana, Francios Uwamahoro, Modeste Mudasaya, and Apolineri Harerimana. They are all aged between 25 to 55 years.

A source at Cyangugu Court of High Instance told The New Times that the suspects would appear in court not later than Wednesday of this week.
