It was a night of amazing performances, glorious music and surprises, as gospel lovers convened at the Kigali Serena Hotel on Sunday for the 4th edition of the annual Groove Awards.
Held under the theme, "Come as You Are”, the event aimed at promoting and connecting gospel artistes, opening doors for upcoming singers, songwriters and musicians, as well as raise the standards of the local music industry.
The awards ceremony, which started at 6p.m with a fully packed tent, witnessed great performances, with a red carpet moment.
The event was hosted by MC Ronnie and comedian Clapton aka Kibonke.
Gospel entertainers proved that gospel music can be both spiritual and fun. Kenya’s comedian Sande Bush aka Dr Ofuweneke and Fanny Wibabara were the night’s masters of ceremony, with Ofuweneke’s Nigerian accent blending well with his jokes that left revelers cracking up.
The event was graced by the Minister for Sports and Cultural Julien Uwacu.
"It is great to see our gospel artistes exploring all kinds of music genres,” said Uwacu.
Kenyan artiste Daddy Owen thrilled the crowd with his hits such as "Tobina” and "Vanity”.
Winners in each category were selected based on the number of votes from the public, a month-long process that began soon after the groove nominations night in October. To protect the integrity of the voting process, all votes were assessed by an audit firm.
