LETTERS: Why Rwanda is an amazing country

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Not only is this a great article, I finally get to read an article about girls in The New Times that does not refer to them as the “girl child”.

Editor,

RE: "From tradition to modernity: Tracing the footsteps of the Rwandan girl” (The New Times, November 3).

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Not only is this a great article, I finally get to read an article about girls in The New Times that does not refer to them as the "girl child”. This is in and of itself great progress. And I would emphasise that in the desire to become modern, young women in Rwanda still have tremendous respect for their culture and their forebears. That is why Rwanda is such an amazing country — it has the ability to look forward while not rejecting the cultural traditions upon which modern life is built.

Bravo, Rwanda!
