Prices of some foodstuff have continued their upward trend over the past week, a mini-survey by Business Times indicates. Irish potatoes (Kinigi type) cost Rwf380 a kilogramme in different markets across Kigali city, up from Rwf350 previously. The other types of Irish potatoes are between Rwf290 and Rwf300 a kilo in Nyabugogo Market, up from Rwf280.

The price of onions went up by Rwf100, to Rwf900 per kilo, from Rwf800, while tomatoes go for Rwf9,000 a basin, from Rwf8,000 previously. Cabbages range from Rwf400 to Rwf500 each, depending on size, in Nyabugogo Market, while carrots are at Rwf700 a kilo. Fresh beans cost Rwf500 per kilogramme, while fresh peas are at between Rwf1,200 and Rwf1,400 per kilogramme and sweet potatoes Rwf300 a kilogramme.

A bunch of bananas (plantains) ranges from Rwf6,500 to Rwf8,000, depending on the size, while a kilo of banana fingers goes for Rwf400 in most markets across the city. Beef goes for Rwf2,200 per kilogramme, and Rwf3,000 in Nakumatt. The price of milk is between Rwf300 and Rwf500 per litre in different city suburbs.

Passion fruits cost Rwf1,400 per kilo in most city markets, mangoes go for Rwf1,400 per kilo, while oranges cost between Rwf1,200 and Rwf1, 300 per kilo, and pineapples range from Rwf400 to Rwf600 each, depending on size and location.
