U.S-based Rwandan R&B singer Meddy is doing a collabo with Kenya’s leading afro-pop band, Sauti Sol.
This comes weeks after the group announced their intention to do a collabo with a Rwandan artiste during their highly successful show in Kigali.
The September show was part of the Sauti Sol’s ‘Live and Die in Afrika Tour’ that has taken them to various African countries.
The boy band, comprising four male vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, Delvin Savara Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno, met with Meddy in Dallas, Texas in the US at the 3rd annual African Muzik Magazine Awards AFRIMM on October 15, where he was to present the Best Female East Africa award to Kenya’s Esther Akothee.
Later, Sauti Sol and Meddy posted a picture in which they appeared together which went viral on social media and was followed by a short recording in the studio.
Speaking exclusively to Saturday Times, Mudigi confirmed that the ‘Sura Yako’ hitmakers were in studio, working on a collabo with the Rwandan artist.
Meddy, who has spent six years doing music in the United States, said there is much anticipation that the song will be popular in Africa and help promote him in the region.
"We had planned to release a song together before they came here for the AFRIMMA 2016. When they came we just decided to go to the studio and record. We also plan to shoot the video as soon as possible, I believe it will help me take my music to the next level,” said the "Holy Spirit” singer.
"We’ve not yet revealed the name of the song because we want it to be a surprise to our fans and other music lovers who support African music,” he added.
Sauti Sol has done collabos with several chart-toppers like Amos and Josh, Willy Paul, Aaron Rimbui (Kenya), Alikiba (Tanzania), Yemi Alade, 2Baba (Nigerian) and Mi Casa (S.A), among others.
Born Medard Ngabo, Meddy is well known for his smashing hits like "Ntawamusimbura”, "Burinde Bucya” "Nasara”, "Holy Spirit”, and many more. He was nominated in MTV Africa Music Award 2016 in the "Listener’s Choice Awards” category.
