Speaking to The New Times Thursday morning, Chief Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kabanda, the Spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety Department of the Rwanda National Police, said the people who sustained injuries were taken to Kabgayi Hospital.
He said that two of the injured are in critical condition and one of them was Thursday morning transferred to the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) in Huye District.
Police were still working on establishing what caused the grisly accident, he said.
Kabanda said that the driver of the truck died on the spot while the driver of the bus is among the injured.
He said this was one of the most serious accidents to be recorded in months, going by the number of casualties.
"We have been recording relatively minor accidents, especially on this road…this incident is unusual,” Kabanda said urging road users to exercise caution, especially observing speed limits.
