Parliamentarians and other senior government officials, yesterday, converged in the Lower House to pay their last respects to Desire Joseph Nyandwi, who passed away last Friday.

Nyandwi, who has been an MP since November 2002, was euologised for his service to the nation before his body was taken to his final resting place at Rusororo Cementry.

On behalf of President Kagame, the soft-spoken late legislator was eulogised by the Minister in the Office of the President, Venantie Tugireyezu, who praised him for taking on tasks during some of the country’s difficult times.

Tugireyezu said the nation had lost an exemplary leader whose attributes included honesty, patriotism and the love for fellow Rwandans.

The Secretary-General of RPF-Inkotanyi, Francois Ngarambe, spoke of Nyandwi’s integrity since he joined the party, saying the late had left a good legacy of a hard working man.

"He was tasked with different duties that were not easy and during difficult times. Whether in local government, as the prefet of Gitarama (now in Southern Province) or as an MP, Nyandwi’s love for a thorough job, his zeal, his follow-ups and great teamwork were a known fact,” he said.

In specific RPF-Inkotanyi duties, Nyandwi was one of the members of the commission on politics and sensitisation, and the commission of agriculture and environment where he was actively involved.

He was also in charge of RPF’s Intore at the national level and specifically in charge of following up Nyaruguru District activities.

Speaker Donatille Mukabalisa reminded fellow MPs of Nyandwi’s love for reading and his attention to detail, adding that his death had left a void.Nyandwi, also a former minister of local government, is survived by two children.
