RE: "Proposed WASAC office raises more questions than answers” (The New Times, October 10).
Dear Concerned Citizen,
The reason why we moved from the old to the new state-of-the-art office was to find enough space to accommodate all our staff. The old office could only accommodate half of the staff at the headquarters. We also wanted to provide WASAC stakeholders and staff a good working environment to ensure efficiency and productivity.
Also the decision to move was well informed and approved by competent authorities after presentations of the financial analysis whose results indicated positive gains by the company. The acquisition of the new offices was in line with the company procurement policies and procedures.
WASAC is a limited corporation operating under company law with the capacity to negotiate, which is depicted by the fact that the negotiated price per square meter for the new office is almost a half the market price.
Finally, improvements in service delivery and operational performance demonstrated by WASAC are there for all to see and are clearly reflected in reports which show our doubled cash flow and positive operating margin. These achievements have recently earned the company global recognition as the most reformed water utility in sub-Saharan Africa.
As a company we continue to strive for efficient and cost effective service delivery.
