Sports Club Kiyovu interim head coach Alloys Kanamugire has revealed that the club plans to start fielding only Rwandan players in the next two years.

The former Amavubi midfielder, who also acts as the club technical director wants the Mumena-based side to follow in the footsteps of APR and Police FC that have been using strictly local players for the past three seasons.

Speaking to Saturday Sport this week, Kanamugire said, "Starting this season, we want to give more Rwandan players a chance to play regularly with an aim to build their capacity at a high level.”

"We cannot change the policy right now but in next two years we will have many young players to use without relying on foreigners,” he stated.

He added, "By using many foreign players in the team, it was not helping the club in the long run. It has not helped to develop football in country, which is why we need to develop youth structures and give young talented nationals the opportunity to shine at the big stage.”

The Rwandan football governing body, FERWAFA, has a clause in the competition rules and regulations that makes it compulsory for all local clubs to use only three foreign players on the field of play at the same time.

Since resorting to using local players in 2013, APR FC has won two league titles and one Peace Cup. But Police FC have not been as successful, winning only the Peace Cup in 2014.
