MUHANGA — Pastors of the Pilgrim Centre for Unity and Reconciliation have denounced the arrest in Germany, of President Paul Kagame’s aide, Rose Kabuye.

Kabuye, the Director of State Protocol, was arrested on November 9 in the German city of Frankfurt, while on state duty. The arrest triggered a series of demonstrations countrywide.

The pastors expressed their anger on Thursday, while visiting the Gisozi Genocide Memorial site. They were accompanied by over 80 students and teachers of Kavumu Teachers Training College (TTC).

"After seeing what happened during the genocide, the young generation should be in position to resist the forces that want to derail Rwanda’s progress after the Genocide,” said Rev. Pastor Paul Ndahingwa.

"Today, we denounce such forces like the French and the Germans- with God on our side; nothing will happen to Rwandans despite the insults,” he added.

After a guided tour of the site, the students resolved to spearhead the fight against genocide ideology in schools and the community.

"The tour has added us additional information about the genocide,” noted Jeannette Mujyawimana, one of the students.

Marie Chantal Uwera, the college’s director, said that the visit was aimed at educating the students about the reality of the 1994 Genocide.

"With knowledge on the history of Rwanda, before and during the genocide, our students will be able to fight genocide ideology and instil the "Never again” notion in their respective communities after graduation,” Uwera said.

The visiting group is the last batch of student teachers at the college- as it is being transformed into an institute of technology.

Meanwhile, the pastors and students held prayers dedicated to Kabuye and the nation. The pastors asked the student teachers to be exemplary in rebuilding the nation.
