Rwanda’s Police handball club will face a daunting test at this year’s African Handball Champions League after being drawn against two continental powerhouses; Al Ahly, from Egypt, and Esperance Sportive, from Tunisia.

The 38th edition of the continental championship will take place between October 21-30 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and will attract a total of 10 clubs from Egypt, Tunisia, Rwanda, Cameroon, DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Morocco and hosts Burkina Faso.

The reigning Eastern and Central African champions have been drawn in Group A along with four-time winners Al Ahly and five-time finals Esperance Sportive, who have won it once. Other teams in this group are Minuh from Cameroon and Congo-Brazzaville’s Calman.

Defending champions Zamalek from Egypt are in Group B together with Widad Smara from Morocco, FAP Yaoundé from Cameroon, JSK from DR Congo and Burkina Faso’s AS Douane.

Police, who will be making their third appearance after debuting in 2012 and competing in 2015, will be hoping to improve on their positions from the last two outings.

The four-time national league champions are still seeking for their first win at Africa’s biggest club competition.
