ERICSSON South Africa, Universal Trading, Tele-10 and Computer Point have thrown their weight behind the national golf team set to represent Rwanda at next week’s East African Golf Challenge in Kenya.

Ericsson has footed the team’s air tickets; Tele-10 has offered the team a variety of golf accessories while Universal Trading and Computer Point have offered to dress the team during the three-day tournament that will be staged at Mombasa’s Leisure Lodge Beach & Golf Resort Club.

"KGC (Kigali Golf Club) highly appreciates the support received from all the sponsors. It is now up to the team to make an impression in the tournament,” said Steven Katwiremu, the team captain.

Other players on the eight-man team include Davis Kashaka, Rwanda Open runner up Olivier Munyaneza, Celestine Habineza, Ernest Ndayisenga, Fraterne Rubangura, Jules Dusabe and Emmanuel Nsengamungu.

In Mombasa, the team will square up with golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi.

After winning the last six editions, Kenya are hot favourites to reclaim the event. Last year, Rwanda failed to make a genuine challenge to the title and finished in a distant fourth position.

Rwanda’s best performance in the competition came in 2005 when they finished second after beating Uganda and Tanzania.
