RWANDA has pulled out of the race to host this year’s Cup winners’ Cup; the last competition on the annual Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) calendar.
According to Gertrude Kubwimana, the Executive Secretary of the local volleyball governing body (FRVB), Rwanda did not have the required infrastructure to host the tournament which merges the top clubs on the continent.
"We have one court and its standards do not conform to the required standards,” she said before adding, "but it’s been undergoing renovations recently and I think we should be better prepared to make another bid next year.”
The men’s competition will now be staged in Egypt while Kenya will host the ladies’ competition. This year, APR, who were crowned Coupe du Rwanda champions in both categories (men and women), will represent Rwanda. The tournament is scheduled for December although the exact dates are yet to be confirmed.
"CAVB have not confirmed the dates yet but we have summoned APR to start preparations,” Kubwimana added.
Last year, CAVB called off the tournament after few clubs showed interest.
