RE: "Street parking: Are motorists getting value for money?” (The New Times, September 16).

Everyone needs to pay their tickets, but when there is one parking attendant for an entire street, it’s hard to get hold of them. Kigali Veterans Cooperatives Society (KVCS) needs to simplify the process of paying and not further complicate it with a fine of tenfold. KVCS has refused to review this issue and yet it would generate them more revenue.

Take an example of my case. I have 4 unpaid parking tickets from Kisementi. I went back the next day to pay and the attendant I found said the tickets were from a previous day and so they can’t accept payment for them, and the alternative was to drive to the headquarters to pay the Rwf400 (waste of time and money).

KVCS has a good method where you can check your unpaid fees through SMS by entering your number plate. If I can find my outstanding amount and pay it by mobile money with my number plate and you guys reconcile this to clear my dues, why don’t you use this?

So now you show I have a balance of Rwf10, 400, which I will "never” pay as it is unfair and blatant robbery due to your attendants putting tickets and disappearing.

If you make it easier for us to know our dues and pay them over mobile money, I’m certain 80% of your debtors will pay. As opposed to the 1% who are paying that fine only because once in a while the Police will come out on the road to impound cars of debtors).

Use technology and make life simpler for all of us please. Then maybe I will pay the outstanding Rwf400.
