Rwandan Paralympian Hermas Muvunyi failed to hit his target of a podium finish after only managing fifth place in the Men’s 1500mT-46 final held on Friday night at Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Muvunyi was hoping to win a medal in this race, having revealed before the competition that it’s where he felt he had higher chances but could only finish fifth clocking 4:05:19, a Personal Best time.

"I tried my level best, I put all my effort but sometimes things do not go according to our wishes, I am very disappointed not to win a medal in this race, which, honestly, I thought was possible—I was very confident but I could not achieve my target,” said Muvunyi.

Algeria’s Samir Nouioua claimed the gold medal after posting 3:59:46 to beat the very stiff competition of Uganda’s David Emong, who came second using 4:00:62 to win a silver medal while Micheal Roeger from Australia won the bronze medal after clocking 4:01:34.

Tunisia’s Bechir Agoubi came fourth posting 4:05:07 beating Muvunyi into fifth position.

The former world champion in the 800m Muvunyi, was scheduled to compete in the final of the Men’s 400 meters T-45 category race last night.

At the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, Rwanda was been represented by Muvunyi and the national women sitting volleyball team that finished in the last position (eighth).
