Rwanda Junior volleyball national team lost to hosts Tunisia 3-1 in the opening match of the 2016 Africa U19 Boys’ Championships on Thursday evening in Tunis.

Tunisia won the match 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 19-25) to leave Rwanda in a precautious position in their bid to claim the single spot up for grabs to represent Africa at the World Championships.

Rwanda’s left attacker, Salomon Matsiko claimed 17 points and Ronald Muvara had 11—most these points came as result of superb setting by Cedrick Kageruka.

By press time, Rwanda were due to play against Egypt, who are the overwhelming favourites to win the four-team tournament. Rwanda’s last match will be against Morocco on Saturday.

The tournament, which takes place every two years, provides a platform for the next generation of stars to showcase their skills on the international stage and potentially take the big step into the senior ranks.
