The national footballers’ governing body, Ferwafa has rejected Fifa’s proposal to stage the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifier between Egypt and Rwanda on June 10, 2009 four days after playing Zambia in Lusaka.

World governing body rescheduled Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda from the original date of June 20 to June 10 in Cairo.

The reigning African champions (Egypt) will feature in the Confederations Cup in South Africa which runs from June 14 – 28 in Johannesburg.

Several reports had earlier on suggested that the game will be played on either July 4 or 5, which would have been more favorable for the Pharaohs.

The six-time African champions face Algeria on June 6, the same day Rwanda plays against Zambia in Lusaka.

A fax was sent to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and Ferwafa by Fifa last week, announcing the new date for the fixture.

However, Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa told Times Sport that it was impossible for the Amavubi Stars to connect from Lusaka to Cairo within 4 days owing to the poor state of African flight connections.

The Pharaohs start their World cup qualifiers on the March 28, 2009 when they take on Zambia in Cairo while Rwanda opens its campaign with Algeria at home on the same day.

The North African giant have an excellent chance of ending their 20-year wait for an appearance at the World Cup finals.

Hassan Shehata’s side eased through qualifying so far, and has one of the hottest properties in African football leading their line in Amr Zaki.

However, it’s no foregone conclusion as they will first have to overcome an Algerian side brimming with confidence after knocking out both Senegal and Gambia.

Zambia are another side who have punched above their weight in qualifiers, beating Togo to top spot in their previous group.

Rwanda will be hoping to finish inside the top three in Group C, having failed to qualify for the last two Nations Cup finals.

Egypt assistant coach Shawki Gharib told FilGoal that their technical staff is going to set out a detailed plan for their campaign.
