AS Kigalicoach Eric Nshimiyimana will have his hands full when his side faces DR Congo’s AS Vita Club this afternoon in the opening Group A match of the ‘AS Kigali Pre-Season Tournament’ at Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo.
"As organisers, we hope to have a good tournament, and hopefully it comes off that way because we have some good teams taking part, but also we need to win the opening match against Vita,” Nshimiyimana told Times Sport on Wednesday.
He added, "We are aware of the task ahead of us, not just for the first game but throughout the whole tournament. Winning against a very good side like AS Vita will be good not only for this particular competition, but most importantly for the rest of the new season.”
The other tough game will be played in group B between local rivals Rayon Sports and Police FC. It will be the first match of new Police coach, Innocent Seninga against the Peace Cup winners.
The inaugural AS Kigali pre-season tournament will attract eight teams pooled in two Groups A & B. The top two teams in two groups will proceed to the semi-finals.
The semis will be played on September 15 at Kigali Regional Stadium while the third place and final will be played on September 18 at Amahoro National Stadium.
The tournament has five local clubs, namely; APR, Rayon Sports, AS Kigali, Police FC and SC Kiyovu, others are AS Vita, Dauphin Noir and Sanga Balende from DR Congo.
Group A: AS Kigali, APR FC, Dauphin Noir and AS Vita
Group B: Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu, Sanga Balende and Police FC.
