Rayon Sportshave continued to boost the team ahead of the 2016/17 season with the latest acquisition being former Rwanda international goalkeeper Evariste Mutuyimana from Kenyan Premier League side, Sofapaka FC.
Mutuyimana joins the 2016 Peace Cup winners on a free-transfer and has signed a two-year contract, according to the club secretary general and spokesman, Olivier Gakwaya.
"We are still in the process of strengthening the squad having lost a number of our key players, and we believe Mutuyimana is a good addition because of his vast experience that we hope will add competition in the goalkeeping department,” said Gakwaya.
Rayon Sports will represent Rwanda in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, the continent’s second biggest club football competition.
Among the new signings by the club is; play-maker Shassir Niyonkuru from Burundian giants Vital’O, midfielder Zappy Ishimwe from Sunrise FC, left-back Ivan Senyange, striker Frank Lomami from Musanze, winger Nova Bayama from Mukura and AS Muhanga defender Jimmy Ange Mutsinzi.
However, the seven-time Rwandan league champions have also lost key players including left-back Emmanuel Imanishimwe, who signed for APR FC as well as forwards Davis Kasirye and Ismailia Diarra, who joined DR Congo’s Daring Club Motema Pembe.
Rwatubyaye goes AWOL
Meanwhile, Rayon Sports are in the dark about the whereabouts of their summer signing Abdul Rwatubyaye, who disappeared two weeks after crossing from archrivals APR FC.
The Rwanda international central defender appeared to have joined the record nine-time Peace Cup winners, after signing a two-year contract.
However; the 20-year old disappeared without a trace, with some reports indicating that he could be in Uganda trying to look for another club, after APR had vowed not to allow him play for their sworn enemies.
