Senator Chrysologue Karangwa has tipped members of Rwanda Patriotic Front in Kagarama sector Kicukiro District on discipline.

He made the remarks during the annual congress of the party members in the sector, where more than 1500 members convened last Sunday.

"We have done a lot but the journey is still long. Conducts and way of acting among members matter. We won’t achieve our aspiration unless we improve our conducts. It’s good to mention commendable work that the party has done and is still doing but it’s also worth to look at challenges and devise ways to overcome them,” he said.

Karangwa, who stressed the need to call a spade a spade, mentioned little participation in meetings and other activities of the party, among other irregularities that members need to correct.

"Our party has been at the helm of this country’s development. We are determined to be the driving force of this nation’s development. So there is need to discuss what needs to be done to keep or improve the progress,” he noted.

"Some members only show up to vote or to voted and for big assemblies. For them, attending meetings at village doesn’t concern them. They only wait for provincial or national congress. You cannot build a house and start from above. No matter how robust the roof may be, the house is fragile. Our party must be strong from the grassroots,” he added.

Karangwa criticised members implicated in scandals in government programmes such as Girinka and VUP.

"There is need to improve our conducts for us to deliver what we promised to do for Rwandans. The best way to attract new members is to change conduct and be exemplary to them. Let’s inspire people in what we do. If we talk about fighting corruption, we should start from within ourselves. The party has put in place the necessary facilitation,” he said.

He faulted discipline committees for not fulfilling their responsibilities and urged them to improve or throw in the towel.

"If you feel unable to fulfil your tasks, step down,” he ended.

Selemani Ntawuyirugira, RPF chairman in Kagarama sector presented the party’s achievements in justice, good governance, economic development, social welfare in the last year.

He said that the party would reinforce participation at village and cell level as well as intensify mobilisation to increase members.

"Every member should partake in this. The leadership of the party can’t achieve without everyone’s involvement,” he said.

During the event, six cows were given to outstanding teachers and other citizens while three people were given seed capital of Rwf 100,000 under "kuremera” programme.

A total of 151 new members were sworn in. The event was graced by sports and culture Minister Julienne Uwacu among other government officials.
