Head coach Grace Nyinawumuntu told Times Sport after the first training session at Kigali Regional Stadium on Monday that, "All the players look to be in good shape. The players look fresh and ready for the challenge ahead.” The 26-member squad is residing at La Palisse Hotel Nyandungu.
Nyinawumuntu who doubles as the head coach of six-time women football league side AS Kigali said, "I think we have a very good chance to win the tourney because we are hungry for that…. I am working hard in every aspect of the team.. we are confident that the players will be ready for the challenge ahead,” she added.
The national team will hold double training sessions on Tuesday; one session on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before traveling to Uganda for the tournament.
Nyinawumuntu will be assisted by Musanze FC coach Sosthene Habimana and goalkeeper’s coach Maniraguha Jean Claude.
The tournament kicks-off on September 11 with Zanzibar facing Burundi in the first game before hosts Uganda take on Kenya in the second game of Group A.
Rwanda start her campaign against Tanzania in Group B on September 12 before winding up with Ethiopia on September 14.
The Group A and B winner plus runners up will qualify for the semi-finals due on September 18 while the final and third-place play-off are scheduled on September 20.
