Rayon Sports club officials have said the club does not know the whereabouts of their summer signing Abdul Rwatubyaye, who disappeared two weeks after crossing from archrivals APR FC.

The Rwanda international joined the 2016 Peace Cup winners, signing a two-year contract in one of the most controversial transfers in Rwandan football history.

However; the fast-rising youngster, who is regarded as the best central defender in the country at the moment, disappeared without a trace, with some reports indicating that he could be in Uganda trying to look for another club, after APR had vowed not to allow him to play for Rayon Sports.

"We don’t know where he is, we have tried all his known contacts but with no success, so the only option we have is to wait because he has a contract with Rayon Sports, which means he can’t join any club without our approval,” Rayon Sports secretary general Olivier Gakwaya told Saturday Sport.

The 20-year-old defender left APR at the end of last season after the expiration of his contract and was among the four players that had been signed by Slovakia third division side, MFK Topvar Topoľčany on an initial 18-months deal.

The other three included APR’s Jean-Claude Iranzi, Rachid Kalisa from Police FC and SC Kiyovu right back Fitina Ombalenga, who are currently with their new club.

However, Rwatubyaye’s transfer fell through over failure to get a visa hence signing for the Blues and was given jersey number 15 AWOL before attending even a single training session with them.

Rayon Sports started pre-season training last week, and the team will compete in the AS Kigali pre-season tournament slated for September 6-16 in Kigali.
