Rwanda’s number third-ranked professional golfer Ernest Ndayisenga put on an eye catching display over the opening two rounds of the 82nd Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Open to remain in contention but compatriots Olivier Munyaneza and Jules Dusabe failed to make the cut.

Ndayisenga posted a level course on day one at the Par-72 Kitante golf course in Kampala before hitting a one-over on the second to finish with a gross score of 145 at the halfway stage. He goes into day three today, in 7th place on the leaderboard, four strokes behind leader Staphan Anderson from South Africa.

Having missed the cut in the two previous editions, the 28-year Ndayisenga revealed to Times Sport in a phone interview that he is optimistic to continue his good start over the next two rounds.

"It is a tough competition but I have no pressure now having made the cut, this is a big motivation and now my aim is to finish in the best position possible,” said Ndayisenga.

In 2013, the soft-spoken golfer finished seventh, his best position so far having finished 10th in 2012.

Meanwhile, Munyaneza, ranked at number fourth in Rwanda and fifth-ranked Dusabe could not make the cut after both posting seven strokes over the cut mark.

Munyaneza scored 81 on day one before posting 798 on day two, while debutant Dusabe scored 79 day one and 80 on day 2. Both finished with a gross score of 159.

A total of 62 golfers entered the pro tournament, and only 30 made the cut and will head to the next two rounds, all challenging for a share of the total Ug.shs 110m kitty courtesy of sponsors, Tusker Malt Lager.
