American hip hop artiste Akua Naru is expected to perform in Kigali on September 16 at Maison des Jeunes in Kigali. The free concert is being organised by Goethe-Institut Kigali, a non-profit German cultural association, and will begin at 7p.m.

This is Naru’s first performance in the country and the show is part of her African tour of five countries- Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.
Hailing from New Haven, USA, the singer, real name Latanya Hinton, is one of the most talented and versatile artistes of her generation. Her powerful voice and music continue to inspire music lovers across the globe, especially hip hop fans.
She has collaborated with several stars like Ahmir Thomson, Tune Yards Angelique Kidjo and Festum among others. She has also graced stages in different countries such as Philadelphia, China, and Ghana.
The singer is basking in glory with her, The Journey A Flame album and has positioned herself as a model for what women can be in hip hop. The album consists of songs like Seraphim featuring Festum, The Block, Runaway; The World is Listening, The Live and Aflame Sessions, The Minor’s Canary and many more.
According to the schedule, Naru’s tour begins on September 12, in Maputo, Mozambique, then Harare in Zimbabwe on 14 before coming to Kigali on 16. She will leave Kigali for Kampala on September 18 and conclude her tour in Kenya, Nairobi on 22. Naru is also a talented poet.
