Rwanda’s professional golf trio of Ernest Ndayisenga, Olivier Munyaneza and Jules Mutesa Dusabe have set sights on putting on a good show at the 82nd edition of the Tusker Malt Lager Uganda Open, which is set for August 31 until September 3 at the Kitante Par-72 course in Kampala.

The trio will be vying to get a share of Shs110 million that is set to be shared among the players, who will make the cut after 36 holes. They are currently undergoing rigorous preparations at the Kigali Golf Club in Nyarutarama.

Both Ndayisenga and Munyaneza missed a cut at the last edition while Dusabe will be making his debut at the Uganda Open, having turned pro at the end of last year.

Currently in the United States, Rwanda’s top duo Jean Baptiste Hakizimana (number one) and Emmanuel Ruterana (number two) won’t be making the trip to Uganda.

Speaking to Saturday Sport, 30-year-old Dusabe, who made his professional debut during last month’s Mbarara Open, revealed that preparations are going on pretty well and they are optimistic to stay in contention beyond the first two days.

"We have been training for a month now and everything has been going pretty well, the main target is to make the cut and then that gives any one among us the chance to challenge for the top finish,” said Dusabe.

The trio is expected leave for Kampala on Sunday for the official practice on August 30.

The open will begin two weeks after the conclusion of the Amateurs tournament that was won by youngster Ronald Otile, who shockingly won both the amateur tournament and professional competition last year.

The Uganda Golf Union has introduced a new regulation whereby the top ten winners of the amateur Open are allowed to play in the pros tournament – Otile is in line to defend his pro title having already retained the amateurs’ crown.
