Former Amavubi assistant head coach Vincent Mashami has been re-appointed into the same role to work under newly appointed interim head coach Jimmy Mulisa.

Mashami, who is currently the head coach of national league side Bugesera FC, served in the same role before he was dismissed by former head coach Johnny McKinstry in December last year. 

Speaking to Times Sport in a phone interview, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Lt. Col. Patrice Rugambwa, confirmed that Mashami had been appointed to work with Mulisa on a temporary basis until substantive coaching staff have been put in place.

"Yes he is now the assistant to Mulisa and they will to lead the national team until a decision has been taken on permanent coaching staff,” Lt. Col. Rugambwa said on Thursday.

Mulisa was appointed into the caretaker position on Tuesday this week following a dramatic decision to fire Gilbert ‘Yaoundé’ Kanyankore as caretaker head coach along with his assistant Eric Nshimiyimana, the duo having only been appointed into the roles on Friday last week.

Kanyankore and Nshimiyimana are the head coaches of APR FC and AS Kigali, respectively.

Mashami’s appointment coincided with the news that Amavubi goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha had resigned from his position citing personal reasons, bringing the number of coaches who have parted ways with the national team in less than a week to four.

Mulisa and Mashami have already begun preparing the national team for Group H AfCON 2017 qualifier against Ghana, scheduled for September 3, in Accra.

Amavubi are training from the Kigali Regional Stadium.
