Bankers have been urged to work with integrity which is part of the Rwanda’s treasured cultural values.
William Ntidendereza, the Secretary General of National Itorero Commission, urged bankers to exhibit exemplary behaviour in whatever they do, saying honesty, integrity and serving beyond self should be part of their lives.
Ntidendereza was on Friday speaking during a one-day training workshop of BPR employees focusing on Rwandan cultural values. He said Rwandan values such as dignity, selflessness, patriotism, integrity, hardwork, heroism and having a Rwandan spirit, should be an integral part of the institutional values to create a workforce that cares about customers and promotes national goals.
"These are not only a must for every banker, but also good for every Rwandan to deter vices like corruption and fraud,” he said. Over 550 BPR branch representatives from across the country attended the training.
Judith Muhongerwa, the BPR chief human resource officer, observed that the Rwandan cultural values relate more to ethical values expected of every banker and, "I believe they can serve customers better if these values are put in practice”.
"We are expected to serve and work with people from diverse backgrounds besides interacting with work colleagues. Therefore, we need to observe the highest level of values in our jobs,” says Muhongerwa.
She said the bank will continue to organise such training programmes to remind employees of these values, noting that this benefits the institution and clients.
Muhongerwa said when followed, these values can help Rwanda’s biggest bank in terms of branch network, to achieve its core targets, like offering the best customer care.
BPR won the Best Customer Care Provider Award at the recently-concluded 19th International Trade Fair.
