A day after the dramatic sacking of two of his colleagues,  Amavubi goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha has thrown in the towel despite still having two years on his contract.

The development, which was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Sports and Culture, Lt. Col. Patrice Rugambwa, follows the sacking of Gilbert ‘Yaoundé’ Kanyankore as interim head coach and his Assistant Eric Nshimiyimana.

"Mugisha has resigned citing that he wants to commit to some other work elsewhere, so we have accepted his resignation. We commend him for the job he has done for the national team, and now we’re going to look for a replacement,” said Lt. Col. Rugambwa.

However, according to FERWAFA acting secretary general, Felicite Rwemalika, Mugisha requested to be allowed to work with Amavaubi on a part-time basis, a proposal that she said they will discuss when the federation president Vincent Nzamwita, who has been in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games, returns.

When contacted, Mugisha confirmed his resignation.  "Yes, I have resigned because I need to work with goalkeepers on daily basis,” said the former Uganda international goalie, who is reported to be on his way back to APR FC, where he was before taking up the Amavubi goalkeeping coach role.

Reliable sources say the 39-year-old former Uganda Revenue Authority FC goalkeeper could be replaced by former Rwanda international and now AS Kigali goalkeeping coach, Thomas Higiro.

A 23-man Amavubi squad, under interim head coach Jimmy Mulisa, started training on Wednesday ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ghana, which is scheduled for September 3 in Accra.

Against the Group H leaders, Rwanda has only pride to play for having squandered the opportunity to qualify for the finals tournament in Gabon, following defeats to Mozambique and Mauritius.
