Rwanda U-18 men’s national handball team is in the Cameroonian capital Yaoundé for the inaugural Africa Zone 4, 5 and 6 Championship that kicks off today and will run until August 30.
The team of 14 players, under the guidance of Sylvestre Mudaharishema (head coach), Francois Xavier Ngarambe (assistant coach) and Rwanda Handball Federation secretary general, Jean Paul Ngarambe left the country on Wednesday morning aboard Ethiopian airways.
The one-week long tournament has attracted four countries namely; Rwanda, Congo-Brazzaville, South Africa and hosts Cameroon. Rwanda begin their hunt for the title today against Cameroon at 5pm.
The teams will play each other in a round-robin format and the winner of most games will be crowned champions.
The tournament has been organised by African Handball Confederation to attract all countries from the respective zones, and will be held after every two years.
Rwanda will be using the tournament as part of preparations ahead of the 18th Men’s Junior African Nations Championship from September 1-10 in Bamako, Mali.
