RE: "Revenue sharing benefits park-surrounding communities” (The New Times, August 21).

It was very interesting to read the Sunday Times’ lead story which indicated that Rwf2.6 billion had been invested in as many as 480 projects under the tourism revenue sharing scheme.

As Belise Kariza (the Chief Tourism Officer at the Rwanda Development Board) explained, 5 per cent of the total tourism revenue goes back to the community, towards building schools, hospitals and community centres.

Rwanda tourism's revenue sharing initiative is commendable and this is where India tourism could well take a leaf from this great nation and implement similar programmes.

As Remarkable Rwanda gears up for the twelfth edition of Kwita-Izina on September 2, my best wishes go out to Kariza and her team for a very successful event.
