Benediction Club rider Gasore Hategeka clocked 3h 20’47’’ to win the 2016 ‘Muhazi Challenge’ on Saturday, from Kigali to Rwamagana town, a total distance of 125km—the event is the 7th round of the 10-race Rwanda Cycling Cup.

The competitors started the one-day race from Amahoro National Stadium to Rwamagana where the riders made 13 laps (Circuit) around the Eastern Province town, with Gasore emerging victorious and bagging Rwf100, 000 cash prize.

Joseph Biziyaremye, riding for Nyamirambo-based Ciney Elmay Club came in second place with a time of 3h 21’08’’, while Les Amis Sportif de Rwamagana’s Jean Claude Uwizeyimana finished in third position with 3h 21’08’’.

The last year Tour du Rwanda and Rwanda Cycling Cup winner, who rides for German Team Bike Aid, Jean Bosco Nsengimana came in fourth place with a time of 3h 21’08’’ and Eric Nduwayo followed in fifth position with a time of 3h 21’08’’.

In the women’s category, Les Amis Sportif rider Beatha Ingabire won the 47km race and got Rwf50, 000, after she clocked 2h 52’ 48’’, followed by teammate Xaverine Nirere, who clocked 2h 52’ 48’’.Inyemera rider Magnifique Manizabayo came in third place with time of 2h 27’ 20’’ while in fourth place was Les Amis Sportif rider Benitha Uwamarayika with 2h 31’ 56’’. The women’s race covered 47km with addition of five laps around Rwamagana town.

Benediction Club young rider Didier Munyaneza 2h 52’ 48’’ won the junior category and received Rwf50, 000.In a distance of 107km with six laps, he beat Les Amis Sportif Janvier Rugambwa, who came in second place.

Other top riders like Joseph Areruya of Les Amis Sportif de Rwamagana and Hadi Janvier of Bike Aid Club (Germany) did not perform well after finishing in 12th and 13th positions respectively with a time of 3h 26’ 02’’ each.

Last weekend, René Ukiniwabo took his first ever victory in the Rwanda Cycling Cup by winning the Northern Circuit, after moving clear of the field halfway the race and holding his lead to the line.

The Rwanda Cycling Cup will continue on September 10 from Kigali-Muhanga+Circuit.
