The organising committee of the East African Community Military Games and Cultural Event has recognised Rwanda for successfully hosting the 10th edition, which concluded on Wednesday, in Kigali.
The organising committee of the East African Community Military Games and Cultural Event has recognised Rwanda for successfully hosting the 10th edition, which concluded on Wednesday, in Kigali.
EAC Military Games organising committee chairperson Brig. Gen. Martin Kemwaga made the acknowledgment, on Friday, during the signing of the after action review report, in Kigali, an event that attracted delegates from member states that participated in the just concluded tournament.
"I would like to thank the host nation for the hospitality and the wonderful preparations. Rwanda has set very high standards of this event, I, therefore, thank the organisers for their efforts and the cooperation to make this event a success,” said Brig. Gen. Kemwaga.
Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Safari, the head of the organising committee, also commended his team and the nations that participated in the event for the spirit of team work that facilitated the smooth running of the annual games.
"We started preparations for the event way back in January and this has resulted into the smooth running of the event, so, I want to thank everyone who contributed towards the success of this year’s edition,” said Brig. Gen. Safari.
This year’s edition attracted four countries namely; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and hosts, Rwanda under the theme, ‘‘One people, one destiny through EAC military games and culture event, 2016’’ aimed at contributing to building confidence among the EAC armed forces.
The four states competed in five sports disciplines namely: football, handball, netball, cross-country and basketball. The best performing teams were awarded with trophies and medals.
Kenya were the biggest winners sweeping four gold medals in football, handball and cross-country, both in men and women. Rwanda won a gold medal in basketball while Tanzania won the netball gold medal.
